Team MS Mega Swim
A sports fanatic, workaholic, former undercover police officer and Multiple Sclerosis/Disability advocate, MS 24 Hour Mega Swim team captain Carol Cooke is one of the most inspirational figures in Australian sport.
Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, Carol set herself goals many others wouldn’t have dared and continues to race internationally as a Para Cyclist. With 2 Paralympic Games, 3 gold medals and 7 World Championships under her belt she continues to challenge herself and others to believe that anyone can overcome adversity, accept change, find hidden courage and their own gold within themselves.
Not one to sit still Carol believes in giving back to life and started the 24 Hour Mega Swim in 2001, raising money for MS. That one swim has now spread into 17 across the country and just under $10 million. She has been made a Member of the Order of Australia and has also become an author of “Finding Your Inner Gold”.
Carol will inspire you to tap into your own resilience to achieve big dreams by never giving up. She truly believes that if you dare to face your fears and believe in yourself you can overcome anything.
MS 24 Hour Mega Swim
The MS 24 Hour Mega Swim is a fun team relay event where teams have a swimmer in the water for the entire 24 hours and compete for laps swum and money raised, in support for people living with multiple sclerosis.
It is one of Australia’s most popular and fastest-growing fundraising events, bringing communities together. People of all ages and abilities can take part in the MS 24 Hour Mega Swim with each team creating a roster to suit each swimmer. Some swim for 10 minutes, others for 4 hours!
The MS 24 Hour Mega Swim is a competition with points awarded to each team; 1 point for every $10 raised (banked funds) and 1 point for every 500m swum.
The MS 24 Hour Mega Swim began in 2001 at the Fitzroy Pool in Victoria and was devised by Carol Cooke AM who had a vision of bringing people together to raise funds for those living with multiple sclerosis. Funds raised from 24 Hour Mega Swim contribute to MS Go for Gold Scholarships, Financial Assistance Programs and providing services to directly benefit those living with multiple sclerosis.
