1 Moana Beach
Moana 5169, SA

Moana Beach (221) is a 2km long west facing beach, backed the town of Moana, and fringed in the north and south by the steep bluffs of Robinson and Ochre points (Fig. 4.51). The Moana Surf Life Saving Club, is located at the main access to the beach. It is surrounded by large car parks, shops and facilities, a caravan park and Pedlar Creek, which combined with vehicle access to the beach make this a popular beach for people and cars. The beach is relatively wide and flat, with an attached shallow bar, then a trough separating it from a shallow outer bar, the shape of which depends on wave conditions, and at time has deep rip channels. Moana receives low swell and westerly wind waves, with waves averaging 0.5 to 1m.

Moana is a moderately safe beach under normal conditions. However care should be taken if swimming in the trough or on the outer bar, as rip currents may be present. All currents and rips intensify when waves exceed 1m. Robinson Point is unsuitable for swimming owing to the rock flats, through there are some tidal pools at low tide.
