Main (surf Beach) - Inverloch VIC

Main (surf Beach) - Inverloch VIC

- 28 Jan

1 Main beach
Inverloch 3996, VIC

The town of Inverloch is located on the northern side of Anderson Inlet. A low energy, sandy shore runs along the front of the town, with the beach facing south-east into the mouth of the inlet, which is 1 km wide at its mouth opposite Point Norman. Three crenulate beaches lie along the town foreshore, all backed by a foreshore reserve, with car access and numerous facilities, including a new surf lifesaving club on Main Beach. The first Inverloch Beach is located nearly 2 km inside the wide mouth and only receives very low ocean waves or none at all. A boat ramp crosses the narrow, steep beach, with a seawall built behind much of the beach. The second beach runs west of Point Hughes and is also steep, narrow and backed by seawalls along much of its length. Both these beaches face the deep tidal channel with a strong tidal current running in close to the beaches. Main Beach is a wider beach that terminates at sandy Point Norman; on the western side of the inlet mouth. It is narrow but fronted by extensive intertidal sand flats and shoals, including some areas of rock flats.

These three beaches usually have calm water conditions; however beware of the deep tidal channel, particularly off the inner two beaches, and the strong tidal flows in the channel.
