1 Corrimal Beach

Corrimal Beach (NSW 369) commences at the low Sandspit Point and trends to the southwest for 1.5 km terminating in lee of the low Towradgi Point. The beach is breeched by the small mouth of Bellambi Lake in the north and Towradgi Creek in the south, with an 800 m long fence foredune in between, backed by a caravan park. To the south of Towradgi Creek is another 250 m of foredune, backed by the Corrimal SLSC (founded 1913) and a large flat area next to the creek with plenty of parking and a grassed picnic area and playing fields (Fig. 4.293). There is vehicle access across the creek to the surf club and the southern point, which has a picnic area and rock pool on the platform. The beach faces the east-southeast and receives waves averaging 1.5 m, which maintain an energetic surf usually containing a single bar cut by 5-6 rips, including permanent rips against the rocks at each end (Fig. 4.294). During periods of lower waves the bar is attached between the rips, but during and following higher waves a trough often separates the bar from the beach, particularly toward the central-northern end, and at times a second bar forms further seaward with more widely spaced rips.
Rips dominate this beach so stay to the south and between the flags. Be very careful up the beach, as the rips are stronger. Stay on the bar if attached and avoid the rip holes and feeder currents.
