It's all happening this Australia Day Saturday

Pull on your toggs, throw on a hat, slap on some sunscreen and head to the beach on Australia Day!

With seven major swims taking place around the country, including the Open Water Championships in Adelaide, our picturesque coastline will be the place to be this weekend.

Celebrating Aussies’ love of the water, this mega weekend of swimming fittingly coincides with Australia Swims, which started on Saturday 19 January and finishes 10 days later, on Monday 28.

The Australia Swims campaign incorporates the Lap Australia Challenge, which encourages everyone to pledge their swim distance to one of eight teams to help collectively swim 35,877km – a full lap of the country.

If you’re taking part in one of the swims this weekend, make sure you pledge your distance here!

New South Wales will host its third Sydney Harbour Splash at Rose Bay on Saturday, with Dolphins Cate Campbell, Bronte Campbell and Ellie Cole competing in the 1km race, while the Australia Day Swim at Sorrento in Western Australia kicks off at 8am.

Mt Martha and Middle Brighton in Victoria are both set to welcome thousands of people to their precincts, with the Mt Martha Australia Day Swim and the Great Australia Day Swim taking place in the morning.

Those in the Apple Isle should head down to the Kingston Beach Ocean Swim which is part of the Tasmanian Ocean Swim Series and back across the Bass Strait, South Australia will host two events – the Australia Day Jetty to Jetty and the Open Water Champs.

The Jetty to Jetty swim takes place between Henley and Grange, two of the most popular and family friendly beaches in Adelaide.

Further down the coast, more than 420 athletes will descend on Brighton beach to take part in the Open Water Championships, including Pan Pac medallists Nick Sloman and Kareena Lee.

The meet is the first chance athletes have to start qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
