The Spit Beach

The Spit Beach

- 28 Jan

1 The Spit Beach
Gumlu 4805, QLD

The western Cape Upstart beaches extend from the cape down to an elongated spit, 10 km to the south, beyond which tidal flats and mangroves replace the rocks and sand. The Spit (902), as it is called, is a low, sinuous strip of sand, facing west and up to 500 m long, but prone to changes in shape and length. It is attached to the rocky shore for half its length, then is backed by mangrove-fringed tidal flats.

These beaches are usually calm with occasional low waves, however swimming is better at high tide because of the shallow sand flats off the beach.
