1 Leighton Beach
North Fremantle 6159, WA

Leighton Beach (WA 836) is a popular beach for people living south of the river. It is the home of the Fremantle Surf Life Saving Club and covers a 1.5 km stretch of coastline. The northern section is also called Mosman Beach. Waves average about 1 m and occasional rips continue up to the rocks at Mosmans. There are beach breaks along here during higher swell. During the winter months Leighton and the surrounding area is popular among kite surfers. The northern section is home to a dog beach and is a popular section to snorkel during summer. The Fremantle Surf Life Saving Club has been patrolling Leighton beach since 1935, and also maintains the annex and patrol tower overlooking Port Beach. A separate Port Surf Life Saving Club operated at Port Beach between 1958 and 1976, when it was amalgamated with Fremantle SLSC, with the watchtower continuing to provide lifesaving services. Leighton Beach has a large car park around the surf club, which is flanked by a kiosk and changing rooms, with more car parks north of the surf club....
