The Entrance Beach

- 28 Jan

1 The Entrance
The Entrance 2261, NSW

The Entrance Beach (NSW 276) and backing town take their name from the entrance to Tuggerah Lake located immediately to the north (Fig. 4.161). The 300 m long east-facing beach is located at the base of low bluffs and fronted by extensive rocks and reefs to the north and south. The Entrance SLSC (founded in 1923) is located on the bluffs overlooking the beach, with two rock pools on the southern rock platform backed by dressing sheds. The beach continues south beyond the pools where it is fronted by shallow reefs and tidal pools. It faces east and picks up most swell, receiving some protection from the rocks and reefs extending off the beach. The waves average 1.3 m and maintain an attached bar with permanent rips to either end against the reefs. The rips increase in strength during higher waves.
A small beach where it is easy to stay between the flags. Keep away from the rips and rocks, and watch The Entrance channel particularly during falling tide.
